Study At Home Basics

The basics of our study at home program focuses on Reading, Writing, Math and Religion foremost. However, we designed our program to avoid the "spoon-feeding" method.

We advocate the "teach yourself" program also called autodidact learning or self-teaching principle.

While the traditional home school curriculum consists of lesson plans that are easy to navigate, the students are expected to wait on their parents, particularly their mother, on certain parts of the program. This is especially true in the early primary years.

Workbooks need to be checked, book reports have to be reviewed, math worksheets and exercises need to be corrected and explained, required materials needed for a craft lessons must be bought before hand. It drives many moms nuts when they know they have some papers waiting to be checked and the day is over. It does get frustrating.

When the child reaches the secondary level or high school, the child continually seek direction from their mother. Thus, the homeschooling mom finds herself very burnt out from assisting one child to the next plus domestic chores, bills, appointments and others errands to attend.

It happens all the time that the homeschooling world stops for a family because a child or the homeschooling mom is sick. Further, if the mother has other appointments, the homeschooling suffers too.

A homeschooling mom takes time to research the curriculum she will use for the year, only to be side-tracked at another home school curriculum shining brighter than the present one. In effect, the budget for homeschooling materials increase dramatically.

Do you feel that you are hindering your child's progress because you cannot make them finish their work?

Are you getting further and further behind?

Is your house getting messier and messier, chores undone, piles of clothes in Mt. Washmore laundry room?

Is your child less motivated in your study at home program?

Is your current schedule driving you insane?

Do you predict that it will get more challenging since a new baby is coming your way?

Is it difficult to find the balance among your children for their school work?

Or did you avoid homeschooling because you simply thought that you are not qualified to teach?

In the next few pages, you will learn how the "teach yourself" method works. There are many misconceptions to this educational philosophy. But, it is time to take a look at it closely as a possible option for your family.
