Teach Your Self Reading, Writing, Math and Religion
The four 4Rs?
Any home school curriculum will lead you to a final destination, that is, to complete your child's high school requirements. Why do you want to use the 4 Rs? And, what can you get out of this? If you, the student, can teach yourself the basics, you will be confident learners. Higher studies require the mastery of the 3 Rs. The three (3) Rs include Reading, wRiting, aRithmetic and Math. On a side note, can you see the "R" in each word? I capitalized it just in case. It took me sometime to get that. I kept wondering what are those 3 Rs. The three 3 Rs actually originated from a toast or speech given by Sir William Curtis in 1825 at the a Board of Education dinner in England. He coined the 3 Rs as Reading, 'riting, 'rithmetic. Each word has a distinct "R" phoneme or sound. Sorry for sidetracking, but it is nice to know that the 3 Rs have been around for ages. Now, going back to the "three Rs", do you have solid training for each of these core subjects? In our experience, the 3 Rs are the backbone of learning. It gives you a solid footing in higher studies. When you get stuck in learning, you just have to go back to the basics. This is just common sense. In the next pages, I will explain where the other subjects like vocabulary, grammar, history, science, music, art, economics, spelling, sports, physical education and electives will fall under. WHY DO YOU NEED THE 4Th R? The 4th R is Religion. Religion is defined as your relationship with God. To study religion is to know God, love God and serve God. Thus, you will find little happiness if you do not make the 4th R as a priority in your home school. Not only will your have academic success without meaning but also at the end of the road, you deny yourself of the privilege of home learning with joy. There will be no value to the hours you inject in your home study. It becomes just simply one of those days. You need to include the 4th R because this is the subject that will give you JOY. So, do not be like the others. Do not ignore the 4th R. Go to the following links to understand each R. For the first (1st) R:
